But Sarah doesn’t respond as a traditional young woman, smiling for the boys; she prefers direct honesty to being sweet. Cast: Rebecca Black and Ed Rashed, with Tim Mossey and Debbie Kemp. ​ Fool for Love Written by Sam Shepard Directed by Kim Gillis The play was a finalist for the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for drama. Former lovers May and Eddie accidentally meet again in a motel in the desert, and Eddie tries to convince May to start again. Throughout the play the Old Man sits to the side and talks to May and Eddie and offers commentary. It is revealed that the Old Man led a double life: that he is the father of both May and Eddie, having abandoned each family. The two characters fell in love in high school. There’s less plot to the play than confrontation … and in the end, the Old Man just drifts off, both May and Eddie depart, and May’s date, Martin, is left on stage bewildered to observe it all. ​ Cast: Scott Ellsworth, Sara Fraser, Mark Knudson, Greg Hughes The Proposal Written by Anton Chekhov Directed by Nancy McClure From 1890, fast-paced dialogue-based action and situational humour. Ivan visits his neighbour Stepan to propose marriage to the daughter, Natalia. After the father accepts, Ivan tries to propose to Natalia, but they get into an argument over a disputed piece of land. Stepan sends Ivan out, but when he complains to his daughter about the proposal, Natalia realizes that Ivan wanted to marry her, and hysterically begs her father to bring him back. But when Ivan returns, they get into a second big argument. Ivan collapses from his exhaustion over arguing; when he regains consciousness, the proposal is confirmed with a kiss … but that leads to another argument! ​ Cast: Greg Hughes, Greg Ellard, Kimberley Matthews
